Cai is an award-winning screenwriter, film director, and producer — with credits spanning short films, feature films, and large-scale commercial productions. He has directed commercials with crews of over 40 people, bringing the same precision and creative intent to brand work that he applies to narrative filmmaking. Alongside his work behind the camera, he is an accomplished photographer with over 20 years of experience across the film and fashion worlds.
What unites all of it is a single conviction: the story comes first. Cai is interested in living beings, cultures, nature, and language. He is multilingual, and he makes work that is designed to resonate — across borders, across backgrounds, across experience.

Cai was raised in a very artistic household — free to follow the career path of his choice, and not shackled by the pressures of something more 'sensible'. He originally trained as an actor, and it was that training — that deep understanding of character, performance, and human behaviour — which gave him an instinct that most directors spend years trying to acquire. Knowing how to work with people in front of the camera is, he believes, what sets his work apart.
Growing up in the mountainous region of Snowdonia, North Wales, Cai spent most of his childhood in nature. Hiking, windsurfing, rock climbing, swimming in the lakes, surfing in the ocean. It is no surprise, then, that much of the inspiration for his photography comes from the natural world — and a patience, learned early, for waiting until the moment is exactly right.
Outside of work, Cai loves to surf and spend time with his wife and their two rescue pups — hiking near their home in Pasadena and walking the beautiful beaches of Santa Barbara.
